I think, Andi would not mind adding another obfuscation method into the
core code. But that furher method should be usable *without* JavaScript!

Sure, but we're running out of options I think, since...

As Andi has told me, another thing has to be considered when thinking
about new email obfuscation methods: The current two methods use the
generated obfuscated email address for displaying it as well as for the
mailto link!

...currently both ways are "clickable" in such a way that mailers can more or less pick up what the email address actually is. One is just "at" instead of @, and the other is hex codes that get translated... Beyond a third that is a mix of both, I'm not sure what options remain past javascript.

Is it a Javascript reliability thing you're concerned with btw?

That means, unless the original code is changed heavily, it
is only possible to add new methods that can have the same string for
both. So, any methods including e.g. images, are not appropriate. :-/

Hmm, just a thought, how about an authentication process to be able to see email addresses-- like users can see them, but for guests a link would click through to a CAPTCHA, then when authenticated, email addresses would be properly exposed.

But then again, William provided an email form earlier in the thread.

What ideas do you have though?

But implementing something more complicated or using JavaScript for it
could make sense with a plugin ...

Which is why I had originally asked if this was actually doable as a plugin, or if this needed to be in the codebase itself.

Didn't see an answer, but this was leading into , "are you working on
a plugin already? if so I could collaborate with you on it" :-)

So, are you? :-)
