PROJECT UPDATE
Sunday, August 29, 2021
Manager, Community Outreach: Emanuel D. Briggs
(202)787-2003 or emanuel.briggs@xxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:emanuel.briggs@xxxxxxxxxxx>
Greetings DC Water Community Stakeholders:
Please see our revised list of ongoing and upcoming construction activities-
Active Work Location: Hunt Place NE
Week of August 30
* Installation of new water services is still underway, and we now expect
to complete this portion of work by Tuesday, August 31.
* We are performing some restoration activities to Hunt Place work
locations where we have successfully completed water main installation,
disinfection, tie-in and new water service installations. We are now planning
to complete these activities by Thursday, September 2.
Active Work Location: Sheriff Road NE
Weeks of September 6 – September 27
* We will be working to install 450 linear feet of new 8-inch water mains
between 45th Street NE and Sheriff Road NE from Tuesday, September 7 – Tuesday,
September 14.
* We will be performing testing and disinfection of these newly installed
water mains from Wednesday, September 15 – Friday, September 17.
* We will begin installation of new water services at this location on
Monday, September 20, and these activities will continue through the following
Monday, September 27.
* We will begin installation of an additional 300 linear feet of new 8-inch
water mains along Sheriff Road on Wednesday, September 15, and this portion of
work will continue through Tuesday, September 21.
As a reminder, during installation of new water services, we will be connecting
the new water service lines to some homes to the newly installed water mains.
Please see below specific details:
Typically, during installation of new water services, you will see the
following:
* We will begin to paint the areas where we will be working, so you may
begin to see paint markings on the sidewalk, portions of the roadway, and even
on portions of yard spaces.
* Essentially, we will be replacing the portions of water service lines
feeding homes in the block on the city (public space) side. This could include
replacing portions of lead service lines with copper service lines in public
space (in cases where the public portion of the service line is lead), and/or
upgrading the diameter of the service line in public space from ¾ inch up to 1
inch.
* Where property owners may have lead for the portion of their service line
inside their private property, DC Water will replace this portion of lead line
with copper if the property owner has signed a Lead Service Replacement
Agreement with DC Water and a service order for this private side lead line
replacement has been issued.
* We will provide our standard 48-hour advance notification door hanger
before starting the work.
* As property lines vary widely across the District, we understand that for
many of the properties, portions of the front yard spaces are located in public
space (property owned by the District). Despite this fact, we understand
customers’ sensitivity when it comes to disturbances inside yards, so we will
do our very best to work around plantings and pavers in the public space
portion of yards; we do strongly suggest that property owners temporarily
remove these items prior to the work, however, because DC Water is not
responsible for replacement of these items, if damaged.
* Similarly, for portions of yard spaces located inside customers’ private
property, DC Water is not responsible for replacement of any plantings or
pavers that are damaged during private side service line replacements. For this
reason, we ask that customers temporarily remove these items inside their
private property as well.
* We may, on a case-by-case basis, need to perform a test pit in some of
the yards. This would include a small excavation (dig) in some of the yards in
order to access the pipe and/or move the water meter from the private property
over into the public space for future access, if needed. We just want to make
sure you have this information.
In observation of the Labor Day Holiday, there will be no construction
activities scheduled for Monday, September 6.
Please keep in mind that these construction activities are highly dependent
upon favorable weather conditions.
Thanks much, and make it a wonderful week…..ON PURPOSE!!

Greetings DC Water Community Stakeholders:
Please see our revised list of ongoing and upcoming construction activities-
Active Work Location: Jay Street NE
Weeks of April 26 – May 3
* Installation of new water services at some properties along Jay Street is
still underway, and we are now scheduled to complete this phase of work by this
coming Friday, April 30.
* We are scheduled to perform concrete base restoration to portions of the
roadway at some Jay Street work locations from Monday, May 3 through Friday,
May 7.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Active Work Location: Hunt Place NE
Weeks of April 26 – May 24
* We have begun testing and disinfection of newly installed water mains at
some Hunt Place work locations, and anticipate completion of this portion of
work by Tuesday, April 27.
* We will begin installation of new water services at some properties along
Hunt Place this coming Wednesday, April 28 and this will continue through
Monday, May 3 (please see the highlighted portion below for a reminder of what
to expect during installation of new water services).
* We are planning to perform concrete base restoration to portions of the
roadway at some Hunt Place work locations, as well as complete all final needed
water main tie-ins, from Tuesday, May 4 through Friday, May 7.
* We are now scheduled to work on installation of new 8-inch water mains on
Hunt Place, between 44th Street and 46th Street beginning Monday, May 17
through Tuesday, May 25.
During installation of new water services, we will be connecting the new water
service lines to some homes to the newly installed water mains. Please see
below specific details:
For this
reason, we ask that customers temporarily remove these items inside their
private property as well.
* We may, on a case-by-case basis, need to perform a test pit in some of
the yards. This would include a small excavation (dig) in some of the yards in
order to access the pipe and/or move the water meter from the private property
over into the public space for future access, if needed. We just want to make
sure you have this information.
Please keep in mind that all construction activities are highly dependent upon
favorable weather conditions.
Thanks much, please stay tuned for more updates, and make it a wonderful
week…..ON PURPOSE!!

Manager, Community Outreach: Emanuel D. Briggs
(202)787-2003 or emanuel.briggs@xxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:emanuel.briggs@xxxxxxxxxxx>
Greetings DC Water Community Stakeholders:
We are aware that some area customers within the vicinity of our ongoing water
main replacement project have been experiencing low water pressure issues over
recent weeks. We are reaching out to let you know that our maintenance crews
worked throughout last night and into this morning to get to the bottom of
things and find out what was going on. We did identify an open valve that was
causing an unnecessary breach in the local drinking water distribution system.
This opening caused the local pressure to be drawn away from some of the area
streets, toward Sherriff Road. This valve has now been closed, and our
Contractor is now reading much higher pressure levels, specifically from 44th
and 49th Streets.
While previously affected residents should now be seeing normal water pressure
returned to their homes, there may be some residual water pressure issues to
some area homes, due to air and/or sedimentation trapped in water service lines
to some homes. If you are still experiencing pressure issues, we recommend that
you turn on your cold water at the lowest point in your home, and let the cold
water run for about 10 minutes. If you have removable faucet aerators at the
end of your faucets, please remove each of these and check the screens for any
possible sedimentation buildup. These steps should also help to address any
water quality concerns for area customers (such as discoloration). If you do
have any water quality issues that persist after following these steps, please
call our Drinking Water Division at (202) 612-3440.
We apologize for any inconvenience, and we thank you for your patience as we
worked to resolve this matter.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you in advance for your

As a final piece of information for this week’s update, we want to inform you
of a separate notification that many of you have already begun receiving from
DC Water. As some of you may be aware, prior to any scheduled water shut-offs
we will have for water main tie-ins as part of this project, we will need to
conduct what we call “test-shuts”. During test-shuts, we will essentially need
to visit the area and check valves along the existing mains in order to
identify operational valves that will be needed to turn off water inside the
mains when we need to conduct this phase of work. In testing the valves, we
will essentially be turning them on and off for brief intervals, so some
residents will experience brief interruptions in their water service during
these test-shuts. We will be conducting a series test-shuts in your area on the
following dates:
* Tuesday, March 9 – Test-shuts will be conducted in the 44th Street and
Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue area
* Wednesday, March 10 – Test shuts will be conducted in the 48th and Hayes
Streets area
* Thursday, March 11 – Test shuts will be conducted in the 47th Place and
Jay Street area
All test-shuts are scheduled to start at 9:30am and last for approximately 2-4
hours.
Now, for the notification information – besides this update from me, all
customers whom will be affected by these test-shuts are also receiving
notifications via our ‘Everbridge’ automated notification system. Affected
customers will be receiving this separate notification to both their email and
telephone accounts that we have on file for them. Should any of you receive
these notifications, we just want you to be aware of them, and not be alarmed.
This is all being done as step toward improving our outreach and notification
efforts to inform our valued customers of scheduled water shut-offs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please keep in mind that all construction activities are highly dependent upon
favorable weather conditions.
Thanks much, please stay tuned for more updates, and make it a wonderful
week…..ON PURPOSE!!

PROJECT UPDATE
Monday, March 1, 2021
Manager, Community Outreach: Emanuel D. Briggs
(202)787-2003 or emanuel.briggs@xxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:emanuel.briggs@xxxxxxxxxxx>
Greetings DC Water Community Stakeholders:
Please see our revised list of ongoing and upcoming construction activities-
Active Work Location: Jay Street NE
Week of March 1
* We have more than halfway completed the installation of 300 linear feet
of new 8-inch water mains on Jay Street, between 48th Street and 48th Place,
and are now scheduled to complete this portion of work by Wednesday, March 3.
Week of March 8
* We are now scheduled to begin installation of 300 linear feet of new
8-inch water mains on Jay Street, between 48th Place and 49th Street on
Thursday, March 4; we are now scheduled to complete this portion of work by
Tuesday, March 9.
Week of March 15
* Testing and disinfection of newly installed water mains at Jay Street
work locations is now scheduled to take place from Wednesday, March 10 through
Tuesday, March 16.
* We are still scheduled to install new water services at some Jay Street
work locations from Monday, March 1 through Tuesday, March 16.
* As mentioned in a previous update, during this portion of work we will be
connecting the new water service lines to homes in these blocks to the newly
installed water mains. As a reminder, please see below specific details on what
residents can expect to see during installation of new water services.
For this
reason, we ask that customers temporarily remove these items inside their
private property as well.
* We may, on a case-by-case basis, need to perform a test pit in some of
the yards. This would include a small excavation (dig) in some of the yards in
order to access the pipe and/or move the water meter from the private property
over into the public space for future access, if needed. We just want to make
sure you have this information.
Active Work Location: Hunt Place NE
Week of March 8
* We are now scheduled to begin installation of 350 linear feet of new
8-inch water mains on 44th Street, between Jay Street and Hunt Place on
Wednesday, March 10; we are now scheduled to complete this portion of work by
Thursday, March 18.
Please keep in mind that these construction activities are highly dependent
upon favorable weather conditions.
Thanks much, please stay tuned for more updates, and make it a wonderful
week…..ON PURPOSE!!

Manager, Community Outreach: Emanuel D. Briggs

Greetings DC Water Community Stakeholders:
This message is intended to inform you of a new DC Water construction project
that will soon begin in your area. As part of its Capital Improvement Program,
DC Water is replacing existing 12-inch and smaller cast iron water mains in
various locations throughout the city. Overall benefits of these projects
include improved water quality and system reliability. Construction activities
for this project will take place in the Deanwood neighborhood. The scope of
work will include installation of approximately 9,700 linear feet of 4-inch up
to 12-inch water mains; replacement of service lines (lead and/or other), as
needed; replacement of fire hydrants and valves; and restoration of all
surfaces disturbed by the project construction upon completion of the work.
The project is scheduled to start early next month, and be completed by August
2021. The normal work hours will be from 7:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through
Friday. However, as construction moves forward there may be portions of work
that need to be completed at night and/or on weekends due to inclement weather
or other unforeseen circumstances-every attempt will be made to keep these
occurrences to a minimum. This and other important information may be found on
the attached project information sheet.
As part of our regular construction outreach program, we will provide the
following:
* This e-mail message and attached project information sheet are being
shared with some local area residents, businesses and community organizations
that will be directly impacted by the project construction; all ANC 7C and 7D
Commissioners; Ward 7 representatives in the Mayor’s Office of Community
Relations and Services; and Ward 7 Councilmember Vincent Gray and members of
his staff.
* This project information will be posted to our website at
www.dcwater.com<http://www.dcwater.com> and updated regularly.
* Our Contractor will be going out beginning next week to hand deliver
printed copies of the attached project information sheet to all customers that
will be directly impacted by the project construction.
* As our project gets underway, we will be providing you regular weekly
email updates to keep you informed about our work activities.
* We are available to provide you with a presentation to discuss the
project’s short-term construction impacts and long-term benefits, as well as
address any concerns you may have. If interested in a presentation, please
contact me and we will be happy to accommodate you.
Thanks much for allowing us to share this important information with you, and
please let us know if you have any questions.
