Like I said, Ross, is JAWS running through the MOTU? If so, big
trouble.

Performance, yes Gord it would absolutely improve. But it would not magically turn Jaws on. Throwing memory at Ross's PC would not necessarily solve all of His problems. Whether Phil and I want or need more memory is not the issue here. What Phil and I have tried to illustrate is that Sonar and CT can be run under maybe not the most ideal conditions. Especially by today's standards, but they work, and that is what is most important. Depending on what you're particular needs are and what you are doing, you may not need the latest and greatest.

Having said all that, Ross, here some questions to answer so we can
better
help you:

Give us you're system specs, Memory, speed, sound cards etc.

Tell us what you did to set everything up, and be as detailed as
possible.

Have you read some of the CT tutorials, they are quite good and explain
things in a very user friendly manner. They will take you from step A
through step Z. There are three or four lessons that just deal with
hardware. You might want to take a look at those.

With the price of ram these days, I'm really surprised y'all wouldn't
want
to go up to a gig. The difference in overall performance between 512
and
1gb is very noticeable, I did it on my wife's system after I first got
it
and was amazed.

I also am running 512 mb of memory. It would certainly account for
some of
my occasional audio drop outs, but for Jaws to completely stop. There
is
some other evil at work here...
Sounds like you need to dedicate some time with some tech support.

Well, I only have 512MB of SDRAM here on my DAW, running on an
Athlon XP
166Ghz processor with a front sie bus of 125 so, I dount that's the
problem. It could be that the buffers are set too low in the MOTU
control panel though.

Hello:
You are certainly describing a problem that we have never
encountered.
You do have what would be considered a small amount of memory these

days. You might want to try adding at least another 512mb.

Hi , I purchased cakewalk sonar 5 producer edition and caketalking

5.1 lasdt month from dancing dots. I still am having problems.
What happens is as ssoon as I hit the space bar it turns jaws off

, so I have to open up jaws again.it just happens again and again,

therefore I can't
write any music yeyt Could it be that I don't have enough
memory
(I
have 512k) thank you for the support Ross

Hello:
Yes, I would go with the motu. HAving three deltas could open up
a
can
of
worms as far as irq's are concerned. You certainly won't have
jaws
comming
out of it so there is no special configuration to worry about.
Remember,
cake talking doesn't care what sound card you are using for Sonar.
I
did
set p a system for one of our customers using the motu 24 i/o and
it
works
fine.

Hi, does anyone have any experience with the Motu 24 i/o? We are
thinking
of getting it for a 24 channel analog desk. Is there a lot to be

configured for it to be accessible with Jaws and Caketalking? I
know
that
one option is buying 3 delta 1010s, but I think the Motu may be
slightly
better.

Thanks,
Jeanette Contant-Galitello

Dear Jay,

Here are a few things you need to know and to do when using CT5

and
Producer
5.
Original Message with answers following each question.

Hey guys,

I just upgraded to Sonar 5/CT5...questions?,

1. I no longer seem to have a default template. If I go to
open a
project,
all the templates are there, just no default on start up. Is
this
the
way
it works now?

Jay, you need to make sure your setting under (option, Global,
Audio

Data,
on startup load normal template) is check.

2. Also, I'm not getting any navigation clicks when moving from
tract to
track as I did in CT4...still getting the sounds for solo,
mute,
etc,
though. Again, normal?

No, this is not normal.. Check your settings using (control+U)
for
the
new
verbal options menu. Make sure all of your audio settings are
the
way
they
should be for your likings before saving your settings.

If this doesn't work. I would suggest you uninstall any
versions
of
CakeTalking and make sure all of the Sonar script files are
deleted
from
the
User setting and the shared
settings folders as well. Then of cores, reinstall CT5 once
again.

3. No wave file "please wait" greeting on startup or when
coming
back to
Sonar, just JAWS saying "Welcome back."

Yes, this is true, there is no wave file playing on startup or
returning.

4. And the response is very sluggish when moving from track to
track.

There is a couple new features that need to be set and understood.
You
will
need to run the color test from the (control+F12) which is the
second
one
down. There are instructions on all of the steps in the
installation
and
users guide, so I won't rehash them here.

After doing the color test. you will always need to use the
(F6)
when
working with a project. then you will need to use the third
option
in
the
(control+F12) which is for turning off the visual continuous
meters.

This
will be save
on a per project basses.

Take Care,

Sean
