NDS News Update - Feedback sought on Digital Television Switchover Sent: Monday, 9 January, 2012 8:12 AM From: "National Disability Services" nds@xxxxxxxxxx Feedback sought on Digital Television Switchover - National News Update - 9 January 2012 The Australian Government continues to convert television broadcasting from analog to digital transmission. Digital television has been transmitted in Australia since 2001, and the switchover began in 2010 (to be completed by 2013), with all free-to-air analog television signals being progressively turned off and replaced with digital-only signals. The switchover is being done across the world because more programs and services can be delivered on a digital signal. Digital tv offers higher quality pictures, sound and cinema formats. International programs are now mostly recorded in the digital format. In Australia, the digital rollout has occurred in regional South Australia, regional Victoria and regional Queensland. The next region to switch is southern New South Wales and ACT in mid-2012 followed by the metropolitan areas and remote WA and NT. More information is available on the Australian Government's Digital Ready webpage. NDS has a representative on the Government's Digital Switchover Expert Group. If your area has already had the switch to digital television signals - which means you either have a digital set-top box on your old television or you purchased a digital television - NDS would like to hear from you about issues such as: how well the switchover has gone for people with disability in the regions which have already switched or are in the process of switching; any issues, such as with accessing captions; processes that worked well; ideas for the future roll-out in other areas; and any other feedback. Please provide feedback to Gabrielle Mullen by phone on 02 6283 3214 or email by 30 January 2012.
