Just to say I am still on the case. I have a version that loads
progressive jpegs without needing a huge wimp slot. However, this
setup of the IJPG library uses scrap files, and is very slow,
particularly on old hardware. Ordinary jpegs still load at a sensible
speed. I will see what other mods to the jpeg library setup I can do.
The alternative is to revert to the version 6b library, which I think
I still have (version 1.25 of DPS is linked to that lib and doesn't
seem to suffer as much from some of these effects - Dave Symes has
managed to get the original error with DPS 1.25, but it seems not as
severe).
I should add that it is not DPS itself, because the other IJPG
binaries such as tranjpeg slow up dramatically when linked with the
low memory footprint version of the library.
The other point to remember is that, as far as DPScan is concerned,
it is fine as long as you are not trying to use progressive jpegs.
I'll do some more testing over the next few days.
