ISTR it's the same as in RISCOS -- <left click> at the beginning of the bit you want to highlight, <right click> at the end ... at least, that works for me, as does <left click, hold and drag>.

The best way of highlighting on Windows (works on RISC OS too with the relevant applet installed) is to hold down shift and use the cursor keys.

All the other ways work too - double click, triple click, quadruple click.

Click at the start, then right click or left click + SHIFT at the end - these last two can also be used to extend a marked area as can the shift+cursor feature.
