Hi Tim,

The mention of JPGs above raises in my mind the supposed fact that saving a

Unless you set JPEG quality to 100%. (as many makers of cameras seem to).

(a) Give us an indication of the loss that will occur on saving to JPG (and GIF
for that matter)?

Yes, save as JPEG, reload, notice any difference.

GIF is lossless (but only 8 bits per pixel).

(b) The fact that DP*s*n stores the original file internally as a sprite does
not quite give the original enough attention.  Should there be some concept of
a Master image format and should DP*s*n always ensure that this is preserved on
disc when any other image format is saved?

This is a bit like the Gimp (popular open source bitmap software), one would have an export option for things like JPEG, and save for some lossless format like Sprite.

(c) Moving on to a possibly enormous extension that may well be completely
infeasible, could DP*s*n be extended to receive in vector format files and save
them out as rasters?  I wonder if AWViewer could do something handy here?  And
if Draw and Artworks files can be handled, what about SVG - and I know that
while ArtWorks can create SVG files, it cannot read them.

It would be pretty trivial to allow Draw files to be rendered to bitmaps - at the moment DPScan will load Draw files but in the sense of extracting any sprites contained in them.

However there are various tools that will do this already, for example you could use my SPrinter printer driver to print to a sprite - print your ArtWorks whatever. Screen snap Ovation Pro. There are better ways I am sure.

I've no idea about SVG, it sounds like a big project, however it also sounds like the sort of thing that some web browsers may have to do.
