Tony,

I am running 10.5.6 on a 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Mini with 3G of RAM. I have already downloaded Xcode from Apple (which, according to the installation instructions, I need), and Perl from ActiveState (which turns out, I don't need). With the imminent release of 10.5.7, I'm assuming that ASSP will still work.

ASSP is more dependant on Perl than OSX

Did you download clamav as well?

As to the immediate results, can I assume that clients will experience a temporary upsurge in spam with greylisting turned off until ASSP gets enough spam? The reason I'm asking is that I have a couple of clients that are very finicky and I've got to be ready with an explanation to them.

What I would do is download the starter DB that I created and described in the FAQ and turn off training mode immediately. Also tell them that they can now also filter in their mail clients using assp x headers. I would probably do the cutover early in the AM when they are asleep. You can install all perl modules, assp (and starter spamdb) and clamav in advance during the daytime just don't run "/Applications/ASSP/osx/assp_osx_configure.app" or assp.pl until you are ready to cut over. You can also run all the scripts in EIMS_Support to configure backup flat files and the helo rejection DB.

Then in the AM tell EIMS to change ports, remove CA2 and restart. Then tell EIMS to stop accepting smtp, run assp_osx_configure.app, start gui and turn off training verify all settings meet your needs and then turn emis smtp on and monitor until you feel good and then take a nap.

I plan to do this in the middle of the night. Should take about an hour, yes?

Much less than especially assuming that you preload the software and review assp GUI setting options using the link from the faqs and you can even review assp_osx_configure.app just click CANCEL when asked for your home country or else you will complete the install

If you have any problems you can back out by removing

com.oitc.assp.plist from /Library/Startup Daemons
resetting EIMS to port 25 and 587 and turning back on rules and greylisting
adding back in CA2
Restart the computer

and you are back to original

Tom
