I can't spot the engineer in the cab in picture 259636. I am also
reasonably sure that the rear headlight is not actually on - it's
merely the reflector bouncing back the daylight. Check the rear
headlight on the 8435 on another track, which shows the same colour
even though we are looking from a very wide angle. If you look at
another picture, 203968, there appears to be a B&M switcher coupled to
the nose of the 8906, suggesting to me that it might be dead and being
switched.
On the other hand, the same photographer has other pictures which show
an RS-10 in the block lettering, which indicates the 1966 date is
likely correct for those at least. (It's 2nd unit behind an FPA-2).
For the moment I am still keeping an open mind.
