Northfield, MN, as in Minneapolis, Northfield & Southern?
Hi, in Kamloops, BC are two SD40-2's with the more orange/red colours and
with the stripes on the noses (fore and aft). These units also have the
"multi-mark" "PacMan" on them.
There are also three cabooses in yellow with the "Pac' " on them as well.
When the Soo Line got collected by CP Rail, the locomotives were painted
candy-apple-red. Quite a striking difference from the Red Black White...
speaking of striking, there's a slew of track maintenance vehicles parked in
town including the "hulcher's" on flatcars and #131 Sperry big car (ex 1929
Boston & Main doodlebug.)
sorry, off track...

Gentlemen;
Hello, I'm a relatively new member to this group but a long time CPR fan. Have
made
many trips to beautiful western Canada to photograph our beloved CPR through
the
mountains, including five trips onboard VIA Rail. I enjoy the information
shared through
this network and thank you all for your input. I have been especially
interested in this
"action red/multi-mark" topic. My question is, what really is the correct
"action red"? Is it
the sort of orange-red that is worn by some of the old CP SD40-2's or is it a
real red
color? All my slides of CPR trains from the 80's show a distinct lighter shaded
orange-red
color and there are many original CPR SD40-2's still operating in that color.
Yet I see
several HO scale models available and they have the CP Rail lettering with or
without the
multi-mark but the color is a very rich red which seems wrong to me. I would
appreciate
hearing your knowledge on this color issue.
I am also a member of the CGW Yahoo Group and on that list any mention of "what
is
the correct shade of maroon, or red" is considered beating a dead horse as it
has been
discussed at length many times and is not really met with open arms. I
apologise in
advance if this is the case here as well. Thank you.
