I'd like to see the numbers.

According to the stencil drawings I have, G3efghj and standard lettering
from 1927, indicate that passenger locos get pinstripes and gold leaf;
freight get no pinstripes and imitation gold. Window frames and sashes
painted tuscan red. The G3 drawing indicate that blocks of locomotiveswere
painted for freight or passenger service. I could post those numbers ifgold
you're interested. Drawings for Royal Hudsons and T1bc's indicate that
leaf was used.some

As I recall from my readings, they did this because gold leaf became too
expensive. I would be inclined to use gold leaf on passenger
post-1936. Maybe
that depends on whether or not you are a rivet counter.

It would be good to have the repaints documented as well as
haven't seen anyone attempt it yet. Mr. Lavallee's book does offer

the subject of paitn on steam locomotives would justify afairly large book
