Makes sense. Where would the cars have been going to/coming from though?

I expect the Trail fertilizer business used these cars in the
fifties. Possibly other aspects of the same plant also used them.
When the Duncan dam was built, 1965-67, cement arrived by covered
hopper at Lardeau. Cement silos were installed at the dam and cars
were off loaded to trucks which transferred the cement to the dam
site. Unfortunately, I have not seen photos of what cars were used
although one photo of a covered hopper at Kaslo on the barge, if it
was in fact a car of cement, was not a slabside. I believe I have an
article on the transfer facilities at Duncan dam which I'll try to
locate. IIRC, there was no special facilities built at Lardeau.

I would like to add-on a question to this: I am modeling the
Boundary Division (Nelson,
Slocan City, Trail, etc) in the 1940's/50's. Where these cars used
in this area at this time?
If so, what for?

With the slabsides coming, can anybody provide info about
what commodities each type (6 rectangular hatch and 8
round hatch) usually hauled on CNR, CPR and PGE/BCR -- cement,
grain, etc?
I'm particularly interested in their use in New England,
QC and Ontario.
