Canadian Railway and Marine World October 1915 is describes Van Horne’s funeral
and subsequent transfer to Windsor Station and Joliet in some detail. It does
not mention stopping of train traffic. Knowles’ book and other sources for the
story should be checked for original citations.

There is a book about Van Horne “From Telegrapher to Titan” by Valerie
Knowles.
The author says, describing the funeral train “In homage to him, all traffic
on the system was suspended at an appointed hour”
The date of the funeral was Tuesday Sept. 14, 1915. The funeral train left
Montreal at 11:00 am for Joliet Illinois where he was to be buried.

I’m looking into the myth that upon the death Sir Van Horne, to commemorate
his passing, all traffic on the CPR was stopped for a minute. I’ve found no
mention of this western papers. Does anyone have evidence of how/when/where
this happened?
