Lettering on the back of CPR Steam Locomotive tenders

I'm most interested in CPR's G5's but I think this question most likely
relates to all CPR tender lettering.

I know, from a Railfare data sheet, that the G5 tenders carried 8,000 gals
of water and 14 tons of coal, but did the tender lettering look like:

8,000 Gals
 14 Tons

or

Water 8,000 Gals
  Coal 14 Tons
