General Chemical closing soda ash operation

General Chemical is closing their soda ash production facilities in
Amhurstburg. Ont.  This is one of the last if not the last operations of
its type in the world.  GC formerly Allied Chemical supplied soda ash to
many industries, including the PPG glass plant in Owen Sound.  The plant
dates from 1907.
