Can't help but throw out a couple of additional comments:
- for my 1946 era, a small number of these are useful cars as they (along with
others) help narrow the date of the modelled scene as "in or after 1943".
- I'm looking for photos showing how they weathered in the short time from when
built to my modelling period - there may not be a lot to see in paint and
weathering that differentiates them from steel cars. But for those modelling
later on, these cars did have a different look as the wood weathered
differently than the steel. That can add interest to the modelled freight car
fleet.
