Thanks Don, I appreciate the clarification. While never a
fan of the multimark, especially on locomotives, I like
having the background information.

Smith Transport etc), green for ships, yellow-ochre for
telecommunications, orange for air and gray for hotels. However even
at the beginning there were exceptions to this since rail cars
themselves were colour coded (which had started before the multimark,
such as with green forest product cars) and multimarks as used on
equipment came to have more colours than the official identification

purposes had no Multimark and used different graphics. The CP
Telecommunications mark wasn't widely used due to existing CNCP
telecoms doing most advertising in that field. CP Air changed to the
blue, white and red "semi-multimark) before becoming part of Canadian
Airlines. Other subsidiaries that were widely identified with CP
never used the Multimark at all, which reduced the impact of the
symbol. Later CP Enterprises adopted the former CP Airlines goose
symbol.
