consists in public timetables? First class cars?
A) This depends on the Train it self. Trains 1,2,7,8,11,12,45,
46,67,68 1st class steel 1300 or 1400 series for sure. 801, 802, 1st
or 2nd Class Wooden more likely.
Q1)would and "14 section" Tourist cars listed in the timetable
be "tourist" cars as listed in the MP14, or 14 section Sleepers?

tourist cars were the stl sheathed 6300-6318, steel 6320-6338 series,
and the 14 section tourist cars were the 6200-6229 and 6230-6249
series? Is that correct?
A1+2) A tourist car is a tourist car wheather it has 13 or 14
sections. The railway supplied what they had on hand at the time.
Q) is there a source for air conditioned or not air conditioned
information on these cars in the MP14?
A) Yes, there is. Its listed in the back of the booklet under air
conditioned cars.
Q) is it fair to assume that (apart from wartime exceptions) only
steel cars would have been on any of the transcontinental trains?
A) No. example Wooden private, and headend cars (with steel
underframes) still seen through out the war years. And a large number
of steel sheathed cars, on mainline trains.
Q) steel sheathed would be off on the branchlines? Eg. 12-1 sleepers?
A) No, not as a rule.
Q) would "observation sleepers" as described in the timtables be the
Fort series cars?
A) No. Observation cars car be ie: Buffet-Observation-Parlor 6518-
6520, 6611-6622, 6630. or Fort, Mount (with open platforms only). The
Fort, and open platform Mount cars are Buffet-Observation-Sleeeper,
Buffet-Observation-Compartment.
Q) Might this category also include the Compartment Observation
Sleepers - I.e. the Mount series? Which observation sleepers were
the 1 drawing room, 3 compartment type, and which were the 4 double
bed room, 1 compartment type?
A) This is a loaded question, but the answer goes like this. Mixed
sleeping with buffet, lounge, or observation. Cars like Island, Bay,
Cape, Mount, (all with inclosed ends) are considered as Buffet-
Solarium-Parlor, or Buffet-Solarium-Sleeper, Buffet-Solarium-
Compartment.
Q) likewise, the Compartment Sleepers with 10 compartments listed in
the timetable I am assuming were the Glen Blow and the other cars of
the Glen series.
A) Of course there were other compartment cars.
Q) Buffet Lounge Compartment sleeping cars, Solarium Compartment
Lounges, and perhaps others.
A) Answered above.
Q) but the Glen group all had a seated capacity of 40, with easily
divides into 10 compartments with 4 seats per compartment and makes
me think these are the right cars.
The 8-1-2 sleepers described inthe timetable are also a bit of a
mystery to me. The MP 14 descriptions do not break down the various
sleeper series in this precise way, and so it could include the R and
both V series cars. Anyone able to confirm?
