Here's a question. What if the term "primary" really doesn't apply? What if
"primary" is an artifact of logical thought? You pick your primaries and base
everything else on, derive everything else from--them. But the realm of
thought circles back on itself, and around the circle, nearby only a little
ways, some things are well explained or dealt with pragmatically by your
primaries.
But further away, further around, things get less well explained or
manipulated. And you find, well, another primary, at the opposite end of this
circular spectrum (where your thought falls apart)--that one, or that set,
explains or manipulates these odd things really well, but falls apart back
around at the other end, the place where you picked the first primaries.
So quantum physics starts out, and chemistry, biology, psychology, and finally
consciousness are supposed to be epiphenomena that emerge from it. It gets
harder and harder to grasp these dependencies, especially when we come to
consciousness. But in the other direction, underneath quantum physics,
bang--they have run smack into consciousness, as another possible primary. So
Eastern thought has started with consciousness, and derived things going the
other way.
Rupert Sheldrake tries to turn various "dogmas" of science on their heads by
picking different primaries. Maybe something does "go out of the eyes" when we
look at somebody. That implies a whole different set of explanations that
would have to grow up.
Anyway, my question is--what if "primary" is something thought tries to do, but
the universe, Bohm's "holomovement," my "non-local, a-temporal network," what
if THAT doesn't deal in primaries, but more or less erects realities from any
and all elements on the spot.
Stretching language here a bit, but it's fun
