Hi Eric,

You will be delighted with the Travelstar HD. One freebie HD speed gauge is
"Roadkil's (one L) Disk Speed." Google it. I keep it on the desktop and save
the data for comparison. The Hitachi 7200 2 1/2" runs rings around the old 5400
Toshiba drive. There are many other benchmark programs (Sandra, HD Tune, HDM,
etc., but Roadkil is extremely to use, small footprint, and effective.

As for ONE CARE, I realize it's early "beta" but I found it a bit unstable and
it did conflict with quite a few other programs. I'll be trying it again once
they update the version. I did send MS a report pursuant to the conflicts.

TrueImage by Acronis seems to be bulletproof. I've been a BETA tester for a few
software co's and I not found a better "clone" or "image" program than Acronis
T I. That includes, "Ghost," CasperXP, Paragon HD Mgr., Genie BkUp Mgr., Extra
Drive Creator Pro., etc.

Paul, KJ8OU sounds very familiar but at the moment, I can't place him. Perhaps
up on 20 mtrs. I'll check his QRZ listing.

  Hello Bill,

  I just got the 7k100 60 gig one from Buy.com I had a 10% off so it was $6
more and non-OEM. I cannot wait. I was too cheap to pay the $7 shipping for 3-5
days. Well the warehouse is one state away, so possibly will be here on Friday.
I was happy to read it used the same power as a5400.

I use Windows OneCare Live to backup www.windowsonecarelive.com but I will be
using TrueImage to replace the HD. The laptop needs a rebuild, but I do not
have the time.

Have you ever talked to Paul KJ8OU (Port Huron, MI) I think? Friend of parents

  Eric

  Eric,

  I have a Toshiba P25 S607 with 17" LCD that came with a 60 gig 5400 rpm
drive. Had 512 Megs memory. I purchased TWO Travelstar 60gigs from Newegg,
replaced the OEM drive in the laptop with the 7200 Hitachi. The result was a
BIG difference according to numerous benchmarks numerically, and in actual use.
Much faster in all regards. They are excellent!

I took the other Travelstar, and put it into an external enclosure from
Newegg and I backup once (clone) each 4-6 days using Acronis True Image. Should
the drive in the laptop fail, I just physically swap the one from the enclosure
and I am IMMEDIATELY back up and running. I have performed the "what if" at
least 4 times and it works flawlessly.

Thanks. I think I will order a 60gig tonight. I keep most my downloads
(programs, plus 2-3 versions back.), MS-DVR's (No Russ, not p*rn, Media Center
Recorded files (Scrub's, The Simpson's, House M.D., Boston Legal if they are
keepers)) on a ext. HD.

    Thank you,
    Eric Vogel
