SCSI = Really, really, really good, wish I had lots of it. 
IDE = Good enough, but slow and inefficient, which I had less of it.

I'd take this one straight to whatis.com and have a look for the tech
definitions rather than me duplicating the effort here...  Basically, SCSI is
very fast, and SCSI busses are more efficient, since multiple drives can be
read/written to at once, which can't happen on IDE.  Unfortunately, it's very
expensive.  IDE's slower, but costs a bunch less, and the speed gap is quite
narrowed with the ATA-66 standard and IDE drives that run at 7200 RPM.
