Yes, there are two parts of the evaluation--written (dissertation) and oral
(core reading list). That blows, doesn't it?

I thought defending the first three chapters entailed just that. However,
do we have to know the core reading list inside and out, too? I can't
remember what I read yesterday, let alone three years ago. Agh. Off to
