The tragic death of Mademoiselle Fifi, the curvy, duck-headed French maid.
Steve Gerber brought genuine poignance to the Mademoiselle Fifi character, and
sadly killed her off instead of giving her the spin-off book she deserved, and
that I demanded (don't judge me).
There's some tasty ink-slinging by Kinky Klaus Janson on this page, including
the explosion in panel one rendered with thumb prints... a nice effect.
An interesting note: the sound effects lettering on these HTD stories was
lettered by Gene himself, and completed in ink here by letterer Irving Watanabe.
This is a little sequence of Gene art that I've been patching together over the
years. If anyone has HTD pages 11, 14 or 16... drop me a line!
