Hey, Crime Stoppers! Sean here, AKA Colan/Everett Black Widow guy. I'm doing a
"Gene in January" posting thing on comicartfans.com where I'll be adding a new
example of Gene's original art every day for this month. It's been a number of
busy years of me not uploading much new art to the site, and I actually have 31
Colan pages to share at this point, so it seems like time. The pages range from
the mundane to the sublime and back again... but it's all great stuff to me!
I'd encourage other fans of Gene the Dean's work to look in your hearts, then
look in your portfolios, and then share some of your own Gene Colan artwork...
especially pages like these that haven't been shared previously. That's the
spirit!
Let's start off with a bang!
Gene in January, day one:
Amazing Adventures #5, page 1 by Gene Colan and Bill Everett

Inspired by collector Chris Killackey and his efforts to reconstitute the Lance
Hallam storyline from David Wright’s classic comic strip Carol Day, I am
sharing my own grail quest today.
This month marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of Amazing Adventures
#5, a comic that knocked me out as a young child and shaped my future in
unexpected ways.
The ten page Black Widow story "And To All A Good Night" by Roy Thomas, Gene
Colan and Bill Everett programmed my youthful hard drive to favor redheads
(resulting in a redheaded wife and daughter), and compels my aspirations as a
comic art collector with an unruly passion for Colan/Everett Black Widow
artwork.
"And To All A Good Night" is my ultimate grail-story and monomaniacal
desideratum of my collecting hobby. Reuniting this story in original art form
is the supreme unaccomplished labor of Hercules of my collecting life, the
conclusion of which will be my final act of hubris in this veil of tears.
I have six of the ten pages, and am passionately seeking the other four. I will
pay stoopid money or provide conscience-shocking trade for these, or ANY pages
from the Black Widow stories in Amazing Adventures 3, 4 and 5. Truthfully, I am
also a fool for almost any pages from her brief solo run in Amazing Adventures
#'s 1-8.
Walk with giants by selling/trading me your Colan/Everett Black Widow artwork
today! Natasha swims in my blood, and her siren call cannot be ignored!
Thanks... stay safe and healthy, friends, and Happy Collecting in 2021 to all
fellow collectors!Sean
