one idea would be to ask questions:
What does the term "certified" mean to her/him? What is the professional
trying to accomplish? What are your concerns? What is your point of view?
What is theirs?
What is their intention? Are they aware of the impact of their actions upon
you?
What could you ask of them to get more of what you need?
Is this something that the community/marketplace will take care of without you
doing anything?

Dave Murch - agree with your entire reply, but insert Ontario as the
jurisdiction. The Law Society does itself award specialist certifications,
upon proving level of competence and meeting training requirements, and
paying a fee. But otherwise a lawyer cannot hold oneself out as an expert,
just clarify one does or does not practice in a particular area of law.
And I agree with others' comments - I learn something with every file. When
I stop, or no longer wish to, I will retire.
