For those of you who want a high level training in, what is truly a
world-class setting, this is the ticket. For the record, however, the
first ever collaborative workshop put on by the Straus Institute was June
25-27, 2002 and was the product of having to convince Randy Lowry, then the
head of Straus, that they needed to make room for this rapidly emerging
movement in their panoply of dispute resolution programs. For those
interested and energetic participants who came from around the country, I
felt the need to honor their participation in the first ever collaborative
program offered by the Straus Institute. That said, for those of you who
sign up for this workshop, you will never forget it, I guarantee.

Subject: [CollabLaw] Advanced Collaborative Law Training at World-Class
Malibu,
Dear Friends,
The first-ever advanced collaborative family law training to be offered by
the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine Law School will
take place on June 19-21, at the campus of Pepperdine Law School in
California. I am writing to suggest that you consider attending thisevent.
in
The Straus Institute is considered by many to be the foremost dispute
resolution teaching and study program in North America. Their semi-annual
professional skills programs (in June at the Malibu campus and in October
Woodstock, Vermont) bring together leading dispute resolution trainersfrom
North America for two and one half days of intensive skills training into
mediation --and now, for the first time, in advanced collaborative law.
The quality of this program is topnotch. David Fink will co-train with me
in this Advanced Collaborative Family Law course. We believe this is the
first-ever opportunity to work intensively with a small group of highly
experienced collaborative legal practitioners over a period of two and one
half days. In the evening, the program includes meals and opportunities
socialize on campus with trainers and practitioners from around the worldand
who are participating in this and the other dispute resolution seminars
workshops being offered as part of the June Professional Skills Program.and
Our Advanced Collaborative Family Law course will offer eighteen units of
continuing legal education credit and certified family law specialist
credit, including credits in legal ethics and in psychological and
counseling aspects of family law. Enrollment will be strictly limited,
all participants are expected to have substantial prior case experience incase
collaborative law. In addition to presentation and video material, there
will be substantial roleplaying as well as seminar-style discussion and
conferencing. We expect the learning environment to be intense, highestmost
quality, and very enjoyable.
The Pepperdine campus at Malibu must surely be a top contender for the
beautiful law school campus on the planet. It occupies a coastal hillsidegoing
overlooking the Pacific Coast Highway and the beaches of Malibu, about a
twenty minute drive north of Santa Monica/Los Angeles. The facilities are
first-rate.
If you want to take your understandings and skills to a new level, or to
practice advanced techniques and skills with experienced colleagues from a
broad range of communities and legal cultures, this course is for you.
Or, if you simply would like to earn continuing education credits by
to a gorgeous location and immersing yourself in advanced collaborativeare
legal practice, rather than listening yet again to talking heads discuss
appellate decisions, consider joining us in Malibu.
This course may be of particular interest to European colleagues, who can
combine a holiday in the Malibu/Santa Monica/Los Angeles area with
continuing education of the highest caliber in advanced collaborative
practice skills, at relatively low cost (given the dollar to Euro ratio).
For further information or to register, go to: www.straus.pepperdine.edu,
or call Lori Rushford at 310.506.6342.
Looking forward to working with many of you in Malibu in June!
