thanks Devi. I didn't see this until today.
this is what happened when I put in sudo rm ~/snap/audacity into terminal.
"rm: cannot remove '/home/savanne/snap/audacity': Is a directory"
And nothing happens with this sudo /usr/lib/snapd/snap-discard-ns audacity
dpkg –-list, there were two entries 4: audacity, and
audacity-data.sudo apt-get remove audacity and sudo apt-get remove
audacity removed them.
There is nothing listed for audacity now with dpkg --list.But, the
bigger of the audacity icons is still in nautalis. When clicked on it
says there is an error and will not start. And in software manager
audacity is shown as installed, but when I click on it nothing happens
and nothing happens when I click on remove. Could it be that it isn’t
actually there?Any more ideas?

well, was gonna try and remove and again so I post the messages in the
terminal.
And discovered that there is now another copy of audacity that seems to
work ok. But the other one still won't launch?
the audacity icons are different sizes, the big one won't launch. I
assume one of these is the snap pkg. ?????
