hmmmm, too late! I already own the 5100. Have owned it for more than a year
with nary a problem (am I tempting fate?) When I ordered it, I added a ton
of extras so that it rivals my desktop in power and abilities. (Much more
memory, A-drive, Zip drive, larger hard drive, etc., etc.) I did find out
that the fan grill being on the bottom needs to be checked periodically. I
never place it somewhere that the fan gets blocked by something
(bedspreads, sheets, cushions, laps, etc.) Also, it does tend to gather
dust bunnies which need to be removed periodically. I hope my luck holds
and I do not experience the problems you have.

Anyway, the problems I was having with Knoppix on the 5100 not shutting off
and having to remove the battery have disappeared with the SuSe live disk.
Everything seems to work properly on the 5100. Still have a problem with
the small screen on the 1100, but have been given many suggestions here.
(Thanks everyone, I am trying them one at a time. Will keep you posted.)
