Hi Joerka,

what about a German translation? I think there are some other Germans and I would do help, if there would be a team for the german translation!

This is a frequent request and I'll add it to the website FAQ. It is currently very difficult to translate Chaoscope to different languages without the help of Borland C++ IDE. Once I've decided which way to go in regards to localization, I'll call for help!

and, have you seen the animation program, written by another guy here? What about integrating it to the Installation package?

The other guy is FranÃois aka "Axone Man", he is also the main tester. Ani4Chaoscope is an independent project and it would be complicated to keep a package including both applications together. I'll definitely add a link on the Download page though.

What new features are planned for the "new" version? :-)

I've just released 0.3! Can I breathe a bit? :-)

- Lights interface: You will be able to drag lights around onto the render while it refreshes at a reasonable speed. Small palette interface for lights as well. Once a light is moved the shadow will have to be render again separately, which should take about the same time as a Liquid render.
- Proper color interface: RGB or HBS with three sliders rather than the hexadecimal text fields.
- Gradient browser and editor: Will try to make the editor as intuitive as possible. Inspiration will be Photoshop and KPT Tools.
- Perspective.
- Color perspective (haze) for all modes apart from Gas.
- Undo (only if I'm brave enough)
- Caching: Providing you've got lots of memory (and only changing the view settings between renders) the attractor will be cached in memory, no need to run the equation again. This one implies a big redesign of the engine, but it has to be done anyway.
- Points Import/Export: Don't expect mesh though, it will only be coordinates.
- Perfect anti-aliasing for Solid mode: You will have a choice between either opacity or anti-aliasing of the edges of the attractor and its shadow.
- Anti-aliasing on/off: Currently points and z-buffer updates are anti-aliased, switching it off will make Accumulation modes sharper and Solid mode faster.
- Better shadows: The resolution of the shadows could be improved by making the shadow buffer more adaptive (i.e. warping and rotating to contain the shadow more closely)
- One good surprise

Depending on how long this is all going to take, you can expect either less or more new features. Also I always come up with new ideas on the way, so this is far from being definitive, especially when development hasn't started yet.

Regards,

Nicolas Desprez
