Sam Cross and I saw four of the five Bufflehead on Thanksgiving Day which
marked a park species for us both. The current Steele Creek Checklist of birds
indicates that the Bufflehead is an Uncommon Migrant in the park. As for the
Northern Shoveler, it is not listed as having ever occurred in the park. I have
several write-in species that would make the list current though the tenure of
Naturalist Don Holt. These write-ins are also absent a Northern Shoveler. I
am believing this is a new park record.
I must go now.
