06 January 2008 Just want to "put a bug in your ear". Several members of the Herndon Bird Club and the Butternut Naturalists group have voiced interest in doing an overnight trip to the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge in Meigs County, TN and the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga. So the planning has begun! Details (date, itinerary, motel, etc.) will be hammered-out at the Herndon Bird Club Meeting on Tuesday, January 15th (7:00pm; lower level of the Milligan College Science Building). This date is a change from the usual first Tuesday of the month schedule (due to the holiday break). We are looking at the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend (January 19-21) as a possible target date for the trip or maybe the following week. Tentative plans are to leave early Saturday (or Sunday) morning and return Sunday (or Monday) night. Martin Luther King Jr. weekend is also the same weekend as the "16TH Annual Cherokee-Crane Festival". Sites of interest include: the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge viewing area, the Tennessee Aquarium, Chickamauga Dam, the Brainerd Levee, Amnicola Marsh, Standifer Gap Marsh, Booker T. Washington State Park, etc… If you may be interested, please plan on attending the Herndon Bird Club Meeting or contact Don Holt (423-483-0470) / Tom McNeil (423-360-2970). Trip details will be posted after the January 15th meeting. Tom McNeil Elizabethton, TN Thomas S.
