HI, Stacey,

My dad's birthday was on March first -- a wonderful
day to be born.

Speaking of Guide Dogs, I'm almost finished validating
a book that Shelley scanned about how guide dogs were
introduced in the United States, and how they and
"masters" were/are trained. It's called First Lady of
the Seeing Eye and is very readable -- full of
interesting and funny stories about the wonderful
things Buddy, the "lady" of the book could do -- not
just avoiding things up above its head. but this dog
was extremely intuitive. You might find some examples
and stories you can use in your talks, especially to
students. It's also excellent in how it explains the
feelings blind people had in the 20's and 30's before
dogs were available -- how frustrating and hurtful the
comments they over heard were and how they felt when
they had to be led by paid assistants.

I'll have it up in a couple of days -- possibly even
tonight -- but there is usually a lag time between the
time a book is validated and uploaded and the time it
gets into the collection. There is a final
administrative approval process. By the time you are a
member, however, the book should be available.
