Dear Lovers of Dogs and Names and Booksharian Friends,

I can't resist a discussion of names.

I love the beautiful change Liz made to her new dog's name!

Growing up my dogs were
blockier, Little Bit, Brandy, Lady and Laddie, not very creative names but wonderful dogs, all of them.
Lady and Laddie were rescued.

My mother's dogs after I moved away were,
Honeymoon, Cookie and Popeye Von Brandendburg. Popeye was a miniature schnauzer with papers. His mother was Lady Von Brandenberg and his father was Tommy's B S. All 3 of her dogs were rescued.

Once I was out of college my dogs were Cricket, because her cry was cricketish and she was a night dog and rescued, Puzzle, her son, because of his wrinkled, puzzled face when he was newborn and his worried ways, Fawna, rescued with a short, tragic life, Golden Ivy Rose Lee, my Golden retriever guide dog from pilot Dogs, the miracle dog of my life whose initials spelled girl and whose official name was Ivy. I made up the rest of her name . I kept her after she retired, and my current rescued dog is Blackberry Pie who is 30 pounds. Except for Ivy Rose and Blackberry Pie, all of these dogs weighed no more than 15 pounds.

Shelley, I loved reading your series of dog names.

I'd love to live enough years to use all of the dog names I want to match with pets. I want to name 2 little dogs Trinket and Handful, and I so want another guide dog and wish it could be named nonesuch.

I've loved this OT thread and though I realize we have to struggle to avoid the O Teez, I hope we never succeed because it's in these where we get to become better friends and reveal a little of what's in our lives and hearts making us more real to one another.

Back to validating.

Always with love,

Lissi

Well, <smile>, I sure stirred up a big discussion. I had a companion dog
named Chester. Now how silly is that? <smile> He was a year old when we
got him so we didn't change his name. But dogs are smart, so I get the
point. <smile>

Well, I just hope Liz's dog doesn't find her name calling change confusing.
I should think a Z is as easy to say as a V. <smile>

Congratulations to Liz, and I hope training goes well for her.
Oh and there is an Aspen in her class, my third guide's name was Aspen, my
favorite name, it fit her too, she was a sweet little yellow nearly white
Lab.

Subject: TBA is named! From Liz

Only 2 re-trains in this class so instructor took pity and gave us details
this evening. TBA is Aziza, a teensy black lab at 45 lbs. Her sister
Aspen,
also small, is already placed with the other woman from Portland. Aspen
is
a little larger than Aziza, but gorgeous. She'll be cheap to feed at
least!

Aziza is Hebrew for strong, but too hard for my speech and I'd forever be
spelling it for people. Following the rules, she will legally stay Aziza
but
I'll call her Aviva, Hebrew for spring. This is my keeper dog, I know it.

 Yippee!!!
