A Braille Plus is also sold by aph, who as you know, make the Bookport. It is
fabulous! Here is what it comes with, as far as programs.
A address book.
A music Player.
A bookshelf, which plays NLS books, Book Share books, Audible books, web
Braille Books, and things from the System Access mobile network. It will soon play
RFB&d books.
A newsstand. That allows you to subscribe to periodicals, and push a button and have them
downloaded and unpacked in less than a minute.
A Internet book search for downloading and unpacking Book share books in less than
30 seconds.
A web Browser. You can download files, stream some audio, read pages of course,
keep book marks for certain pages, and some other things.
A email program that is similar to outlook Express. All of my mail comes from the
Braille Plus.
A RSS reader. It will automatically download all of the articles from all of your
feeds.
A Podcatcher. It is similar to juice, but much better.
A network manager that allows you to connect with wireless networks, or use your PC'S
Ethernet connection for the Braille Plus connection.
Of course, this device has Wireless built in.
A clock that allows you to check the date and time. You can just push a button, and it will sync
the clock with a time server.
A word processor that you can bold, under line, italic, center, etc, with
easy-to-remember commands like CTRL B, CTRL E, etc.
A planner that keeps track of your appointments and wakes the unit up when the alarm is
supposed to go off.
A voice recorder that records files as good as files on a 250 dollar recorder.
The unit has a good built in microphone.
A standard and scientific calculator.
A stopwatch
A journal. This application allows you to sync with your Live Journal account, if you
want to.
Several settings.
A file explorer, that allows you to browse for files, open them, and move them. File sharing which allows you to send files back and forth wirelessly with other devices. Disk Drive Mode. This allows you to connect to your computer and have it show up in Windows
Explorer like the Bookport.
A blue Tooth control Panel that you connect to wireless keyboards.
Blue Tooth is built in.
A task manager. This is very similar to what you get on the PC by pressing CTRL
ALT Delete.
A system updater, which allows you to download new software updates from the unit itself.
A backup utility to back up your data.
A problem reporter tool.
There is allot more in this thing, but those are the most important things.
If you want to learn more, or you have questions, please let me know on list.

I'm going to get screamed at for saying this, but if you need DTBS that
much, get a Braille
Plus from APH!

Absolutely not. Getting a bunch of politicians involved in what is
essentially an internal administrative decision by NLS would only damage
NLS
in the long run. Besides, the time to complain about what devices the
new
Digital Talking Books will play on is long past. We were told from the
beginning that the system would be secure and it is. You have a choice:
wait
until NLS players are available in another year or two or spend the
money
now to gratify yourself if you simply can't wait that long. You are not
being deprived of any book titles, since everything that's being
released in
the new DTB format is also being issued on tape. You are merely being
inconvenienced and that's no basis whatever for asking your member of
congress to stick his or her nose in.

Hi
I also am hoping that this list is active.

This question is not the king of question I can ask on the other list.

Should we as Book Port owners contact our u.S. congressmen to ask them
to
require the LOC to allow anyone like the APH to put the hardware and
software required to operate the new digital format?

John
