Those cell type batteries do not have enough capacity. Do you have a cell phone? What do you do to avoid a dead battery when you need it most? Charge the device when you do not use it. Lithium ion batteries can be recharged at any time. Remember the NiCads?

A spare battery would work but will you lose settings when swapping? Universal
chargers already exist that can take most batteries of this type.

Ok then, how about a watch battery, they're thinner, or a hearing aid
battery, they're also not too thick. Any type that could be used, if the
rechargeable dies.
I hate the fact I'll be losing my portability, and will be tied to electric
power.

At least develop a recharger that could be used to charge a second battery,
while the first battery is being used.

It's too thin to hold that type of battery.

You know, in many of the digital cameras now days you can use either
rechargeable batteries, or regular double A batteries. That way, if your
rechargeables die at a crucial moment you can always whip out the double
A(s) and keep on clicking away at those pictures.

I wonder why something similar can't also be done for the Bookport Plus?

I too am disappointed with Sam and Tom. Adding to that the
rechargeable instead of replaceable battery removes two of the
reasons Book Port has continued to be my preference for reading text
and listening to MP3 files.
