Hello, I for one agree with you, am in the same boat that you are, and feel the same way. When my unit stops working, I hope to look elsewhere for other options, since the batteries will not be able to be bought off the shelf. With the exception of support for nls material, I certainly wouldn't trade my bookport in for the new model. I have reservations about the built in rechargeable battery. The current batteries are relatively cheap and easy to find. Fortunately, I have never had problems with the battery holder. As for the speaker, I used a small plug in amplified speaker which does the trick quite nicely. Although convenient, the on off switch wasn't something I found personally issue. I'm not familiar with the flash cards they will be using on the unit. Maybe there will be some used two gig cards out there? I guess for me the jury is very much out. Richard
