HI Richard, I agree. I use a regular plug-in speaker, and that works quite nicely. We are also getting a treadmill with a built-in speaker, and I would assume, since they say it works with most MP3 players, that the way you plug it in is a headphone jack, so even there, I can just plug my BP IN AND GO. It would be nice, I admit, to have a rechargeable batteryt, but I don't care about an on/off switch myself, as it beeps when it turns off anyway really. Not a big deal. The NLS support will be nice. I might have missed it, since I haven't been able to read everything because of stuff going on around here, but has anyone said how much this bad boy is going to cost? Maybe they will say on main Menu, or maybe they said on the podcast, which I haven't listened to yet. Not that I could afford it right now, but just out of morbid, idle curiosity. With the exception of support for nls material, I certainly wouldn't trade my bookport in for the new model. I have reservations about the built in rechargeable battery. The current batteries are relatively cheap and easy to find. Fortunately, I have never had problems with the battery holder. As for the speaker, I used a small plug in amplified speaker which does the trick quite nicely. Although convenient, the on off switch wasn't something I found personally issue. I'm not familiar with the flash cards they will be using on the unit. Maybe there will be some used two gig cards out there? I guess for me the jury is very much out. Richard
