Chris:

Yes, we now use 32K cluster sizes on 4GB cards and yes, you can expect
some improvement in access times. I still wouldn't put a lot of files in
one folder, though.

Sharon, APH and list,

Shortly after introduction of FAT32 on the BP, I started formattiing my
4
(and 8) gig CF on my PC, with 32k cllustersize. I did so to eliminate
very
slow or no response caused by large fat size which in turn is caused
by
small clustersize.
i reported this in this list to APH, but never received any reply.
as far as i know, since the current beta releases, APH finally uses
32k, so
a number of slow or no response problems should be solved.
i humbly request the experts of APH to confirm this, as i am only a
simple
ordinary user (with a.o. knowledge of file systems)...

Subject: [bookport] beta firmware and my 4 gig problem

Hello. I'm wondering if I can try the beta firmware to see if it fixes
my
problem with my 4 gig card. It either does not respond to buttons or
responds very slowly when I tell it to play a file. Also when I'm
moving
through the folders list it doesn't respond at all or is very slow in
responding. I'm not a beta tester but wondered if this would help me.
I'm going to reformat the card anyway and reload it again. I won't put
as
much in a folder though. One folder had 68 files in it. Has anyone had
a
problem with that or did I just put too many in there?
Sharon
