Hi Bruce and list!

You are quite right. I'd only ask they provide the requirements for the output of the charger in the manual so users could source their own that meets local requirements. Considering APH's positive record, that shouldn't be any problem. Many wanted to be able to use AC power. APH will give them what they asked for in that regard in BPII. Now if they really wanted it, they must realise that APH shouldn't need to bear the complete burden. It's true they provided a set a batteries with BP1, which was overly generous in my opinion.

Cheers,
Dave

I would imagine that if a power adaptor is not included, one will be
able to purchase one separately. What APH is doing makes perfect sense
here. The price will have to go up, that's a given. So the way to combat
that is to only supply by default the things which everyone is going to
want. The rest can be purchased by those who want those extras. How many
times have I gotten something with those earbuds includeded? I'd've
loved to save eighty cents and not bother with earbuds I won't use. Or
with the Book Port, I was just going to get a bigger card anyway, so I
would've been just as happy to save a few bucks and have Book Port not
come with the card. It's APH's tradeoff for trying to keep the price as
low as they can and I respect them for it.

After Listening to Larry's presentation I want to express some
concerns I have. If one already owns a Bookport the definite
benefits for upgrading will be definitely a speaker, a rechargeable
battery pack, faster USB, onboard memory, new class of memory card,
thinner design, and another couple of items which escape me at the
writing of this e-mail.

Larry stated that they might not include an external charger as part
of the new bookport package. I am frustrated here because of the
assumption that we will always be in a situation where we can leave
our device connected to a computer whenever the Bookport needs to be
charged. When I travel I do not carry a computer with me and I am
often away from home for several days.

A number of the items he mentioned such as the on/off switch stereo
mike, the difference in thickness would not make me want to upgrade.

I know that the new unit will cost more when all is said and done, so
the only question is how much. They are going to have to charge more
because of the software and hardware. To have to buy cards, cables
case, power supply or other device to give an alternate source for
power is pretty tough on the customer.
