That is a way to do it, but if you start talking about gigabytes of
data, I don't think it will be too practical.

Assuming that the files residing on the BookPort (except for the notes
and
memos) are created on the pc and that deleting files will not change
the
sort order, could you copy the BookPort's FAT to the pc, sort it and
then
write it back to the BookPort?
 
BookPort Transfer could have a new Sort option.  If files are sent to
the
BookPort via the Transfer utility, the utility would have sort as an
option.
If files are sent to BookPort some other way, the user could go into
the
Transfer utility to invoke the sort routines.  
 
If adding this process makes the transfer too slow, you could have the
sort
as a completely separate stand a loan option in the transfer utility.
