Thanks for the fuller treatment of this subject.

Is it then a good housekeeping practice to format the card periodically through BP?

From an earlier message it doesn't sound like the card gets defragged using this process, but perhaps it doesn't matter. (that last sentence is really a question.)

Part of the problem you describe has to do with fragmentation of space on
the card. One trick you can try is to select book sections from the bottom
of the list upward instead of from the top downward if you want to select
multiple items at the same time and transfer them with a single keystroke.
It seems that Windows tends to send the last selected item first, not the
first selected item. Remember that folders are not discrete physical
sections on the card, they're only directory entries, just like file names.
As a result, if the card is really fragmented with pieces of old files that
you've deleted, strange things can happen with regard to the physical
placement of new material. And also remember that when you delete something
on any computer-like device, you do not physically remove that material from
the storage medium, you only modify a directory entry for the file, marking
it as having been deleted--the actual data remains on the storage medium
until it ultimately gets written over by new material.

Hi List;

Talking about 2Gb cards made me think of one problem I've been experiencing.

When I load one of those multi file mp3 books, they don't always get to the
BP in the right order.

I've tried loading them en masse by selecting them from file 1 thru xx, and
I've tried downloading each file individually one at a time, but it seems
the last file always ends up on top, ahead of the first file.

What am I doing wrong?

I've formatted a two-GB card repeatedly since the latest firmware with
no problems whatsoever. The only thing that happens to me is I still
occasionally get that double beep with the 0t speech announcement when I
delete an MP3 book. Other than that, my two-GB card works
perfectly--very fast, very accurate, no problems. It's a Sandisk card,
for what it's worth.
