I think the behavior you describe regarding Spanish mode is normal.
Spanish mode is not available for audio files or note files. I suspect
you happened to be in the notes folder when you got the "Spanish
unavailable" message.
Now, I am concerned about the lock-up in the notes folder. Any more
info on that?

The only files I have on my BP are text files - books I have scanned or
downloaded from the web and saved as text, ms word or html. i actually

not tried one of the preformatted book files yet - audible, bookshare,
etc.
