When I change batteries using the DEF command, the clock stops but is preserved.

OK, I have to ask, because this issue seems to be related, and because
I cannot seem to get a definitive answer from folks about the behavior of
Bookport when batteries are changed.

When I change the batteries, regardless of whether I use the D E F
command to save the settings, the clock reverts to May 2005, at 12:35 in
the afternoon. Others say that the clock is preserved across battery
changes. It strikes me that this should be controlled by the firmware.
I'm running firmware 2.1, the production version. Did this behavior change
with the advent of the beta code after 2.1? Or, is it something controlled
by the revision of bookport hardware? My bookport was sold in July 2004.
