Good Morning,
I'm not sure how I got this e-mail but I am looking for information on roku,
both for myself and a friend whose disability does not allow her to use her
hands for a remote TV. I want to get off cable and/or satellite services to
economize. How does roku work with Apple TV. Currently, I'm using a 27" TV
with satellite service, but I can't see it for more than 3 feet away. Is a
combination of roku and Apple TV more cost-efficient? I have also heard about
kodi, but don't know if that requires cable or satellite TV service as well.
Do you have any information to share that would be beneficial for me and/or my
friend. She needs a remote that she can speak to that will turn the TV on or
off or help her change channels.
Thank you for any information you can provide.
Sincerely,
Starr L. Guckert

Subject: [blind-internet-tv] An Update on my ROKU
Well, back in December Roku introduced some accessibility. When I purchased
this, we had to upgrade to version 7.5 which had speech, but after ignoring the
unit for maybe 2 hours, it would drop back to an early non-speech version. From
doing some reading, looks like ROKU withdrew this update. Anyway, after several
months, I am playing with this, speech is stable, somewhat better voice than a
demo which was posted in December. There are obvious differences among ROKU and
my Apple TVs. As an example, much more of a news section in ROKU is taken up by
local news channels here in the States.
What I really wanna know, is their a community similar to folks who crateek
apps on an Apple? As an example, if I launch either CNN or Youtube, I hear no
speech, also, I think NBC-News. On a positive note, streams seem to be more
stable than an Apple TV. Thanks so much in advance Chime
