I chose not to listen last night. I refuse to listen to deceit and
propaganda, which is what I believe these conventions are. I'll here some of
it on Democracy Now, today. But I have to say that I no longer believe what
Obama says. During that discussion between Robert Sheer and Thomas Frank,
Frank described a 2008 speech that Obama gave. Sheer and I both remember
that speech. For Frank, it was what convinced him to vote for Obama. In it,
Obama talked about all the things he would do like undoing NAFTA, fixing
immigration, renewal of commitment to civil liberties. Not only did he do
none of what he promised. He pushed more trade deals, now the TPP which is
his signature achievement. Civil liberties? And he's the deporter in chief.
He went back on every promise. He was going to help people who'd been hurt
by the financial crash. Instead, he brought all the Clinton people on board
who'd caused the crash, and he helped the banks. These people, these,
"liberal" democrats, sound so nice, just like madeline Albright whom you
heard speak and whom you liked so much that you can't believe that she said
what she said, what she's ben quoted saying and what I heard her say on a
video of that speech, that it was worth it that 500,000 Iraqi children died
as a result of our sanctions. So Obama sounds so nice. He speaks so
beautifully, and you believe that he means what he says. So what about when
he said, "I'm getting really good at killing people"? I heard him say it and
it's been quoted. He sounds so nice and he takes personal responsibility
for a kill list every Tuesday, a list of people, most of whom, haven't
done anything yet, but who might do something in the future, perhaps. I
just really can't contain my outrage at how this parade of educated, wealthy
elitist criminals can be paraded on a stage in a pageant depicting our
democratic process and people can passively accept all of this.

I must say, though, that Obama's speech was, as is so usual for him, very
moving and stirring.but as we all know, words are cheap, and he does have a
silver tongue in his head.but at the same time, I believe he believes what
he is saying, it is not pandering or deceit or in any other way

was editor of The Ramparts in the old days. Anyway, one thing they
said is
that there are 2 groups at the convention. There are real people who
have
absolutely no power and are being used, and there are people who are
there
to find jobs or get new jobs. All of the real transactions take
place at the
corporate parties where the second group can be found. The first
group are
stage dressing. And Sanders asking for a vote for Clinton by
acclamation? I
don't know how any of his delegates can manage to respect him after
that.

delegates who were interviewed during the first hour of Democracy
Now, were
African American. During the campaign, the mass media kept saying

Bernie wasn't doing well with black people. But he sure had a lot of

delegates that we never heard about.
