Miriam, it is almost midnight here and I too feel as you do. When I made my
prediction that Trump had a 75 percent chance of winning, the very same day the
New York Times gave Clinton a 79 percent chance of winning. My dire predictions
were not meant to upset anyone. They were merely out of my concern for our
nation. I know you may not believe this but if I were there I would hug you as
we both need it. If there is any small glimpse of sanity left it may be here in
Massachusetts. We had four ballot initiatives:
1. Expanding gambling to allow for one more slot parlor. I voted yes on this
one. It went down in defeat.
2. This is a biggie. It would have shifted a considerable amount of public
money from public schools to privately run charter schools. The brunt of the
funding loss would have been from the 6 poorest school districts in Boston. I
was very much opposed to this one and voted no. This was a proud moment for the
residents of Massachusetts as we collectively filtered the truth from the lies
and soundly defeated it.
3. This ballot question would require poultry and meat to be from farms that
use humane means of raising animals. Almost all farms here in the Bay State
already do this. The money poured into lobbying against this came from out of
state farm lobbyists. I voted for this and it was passed by a huge margin.
4. This ballot question would begin the process of legalizing small amounts of
recreational marijuana. This will go a long way to curb the drug war,
especially in poor areas and will save lives and reduce violence. The
opposition, funded by the law enforcement lobby spent a good deal of money
lobbying against this. I voted yes and it was passed by a narrow margin. Given
the outcome of our national elections, I think sales will be brisk.

I'm listening to Democracy Now on the New York City radio Pacifica station.
Couldn't find their live stream on the website. Right now, seems like Frank has
been right and we'll have a President Trump. I'm listening to the predictions
of what that will mean from really smart people whom I respect.
I doubt I can sleep tonight.
