You want to read a futuristic novel about where we'll be in 100 plus years
which is basically a satire on where we are now? It's entertaining, has
political significance, although the guy who recommended it on DB Review didn't
realize it, and is 22 hours long. It will keep you out of mischief and perhaps,
keep you signing petitions. It is New York 2140. I keep thinking about
Hurricane Sandy as I read it.

On a good day I sign petitions and email articles off to family and friends.
The hope...and that is all it is, is that the people I email will also be
writing their congress people and contacting all of their friends. Then one
fine day we will look out our windows and see the Good Fairy fluttering down to
Earth, waving her magic wand and sprinkling star dust on one and all.
But on most days I simply take what action I can, with the knowledge that at
best I'm about 2 billion dollars short of making a difference.
And I can't figure out why I keep fighting the System instead of joining the
Gold Rush.
But I continue reminding myself that there has never really been a "good time"
for the poorest of the poor. And someone needs to do what they can, even if it
is only a tiny band aid on open wounds. And so, we keep on keeping on.
