I'm a bit behind in cleaning up old posts, but I did read this one at
the time.  I have been inundated with requests for support and to sign
petitions, which I mostly have done.  Senator Patty Murray keeps me on
her lists, too.

This Is It: We Have the Next Three Weeks to Fight for the Affordable Care
Act
http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/40931-this-is-it-we-have-the-next-three-weeks-to-fight-for-the-affordable-care-act
Sarah Jaffe, Truthout: The Senate is our last line of defense against the
GOP's terrible health care bill, and people in the US deserve public
hearings before anything happens, says Angel Padilla, policy director at The
Indivisible Project. Meanwhile, people should be calling every Republican
and Democratic senator nonstop, writing letters to the editor and holding
sit-ins to make their displeasure known.

In an Aging Nation, Single-Payer Is the Alternative to Dying Under Austerity
http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/40930-in-an-aging-nation-single-payer-is-the-alternative-to-dying-under-austerity
Mike Ludwig, Truthout: A new push for a single-payer health system is rising
in Washington, where Republicans are pushing a draconian plan to repeal the
Affordable Care Act. Some may think that "Medicare for All" would do little
for the nation's rapidly growing population of seniors, but a single-payer
system could expand benefits and ensure that the process of aging and dying
is not exploited for profit. This piece is part of Truthout's newly launched
series, "Fighting for Our Lives: The Movement for Medicare for All."

Single-Payer Is Within Reach: What You Need to Know About the Bill for
Improved Medicare for All
http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/40932-single-payer-is-within-reach-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-bill-for-improved-medicare-for-all
Margaret Flowers, Truthout: A National Improved Medicare for All would
prioritize people's health and well-being over corporate profits. Even as
Republican senators seek to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, the
single-payer health care plan envisioned in Rep. John Conyers' bill, HR 676,
is receiving more support than any previous universal health care effort.
This new installment in Truthout's series on Medicare for All offers a
primer on the bill and the vision behind it.

What's Hidden Behind the Walls of US Prisons
http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/40925-what-s-hidden-behind-the-walls-of-the-us-s-prisons
Heather Ann Thompson, The Conversation: Even though prisons contain human
beings, and even though we are the ones who cough up the billions of dollars
that it costs to run these institutions, we are expected to trust that they
are operated humanely and that they make our society safer. It is past time
that the public knew exactly what is happening behind prison walls.

Amy Goodman and Juan González, Democracy Now!: Attorney General Jeff
Sessions has come under fire for repeatedly refusing to answer questions
during his testimony Tuesday before the Senate Intelligence Committee about
alleged Russia meddling in the 2016 election. Elizabeth Goitein, co-director

Dear Mr. President, Be Careful What You Wish for: Higher Interest Rates Will
Kill the Recovery
http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/40927-dear-mr-president-be-careful-what-you-wish-for-higher-interest-rates-will-kill-the-recovery
Ellen Brown, The Web of Debt Blog: Responding to earlier presidential
pressure, the Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates this week
for the third time since November. However, higher interest rates will
triple the interest on the federal debt to $830 billion annually by 2026 and
slow the economy.

Want to Get "Back to the Land"? You're Not Alone
http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/40926-want-to-get-back-to-the-land-you-re-not-alone
Nancy Matsumoto, YES! Magazine: Young farmers face serious structural
obstacles: access to affordable land, a steep (and often self-financed)
learning curve, debilitating student loans and lack of access to health
care. But three back-to-the-land farmers managed to succeed -- could their
experiences be instructive for struggling young farmers today?

Koch Convention to Rewrite Constitution Runs Into Roadblocks
http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/40928-koch-convention-to-rewrite-constitution-runs-into-roadblocks
Arn Pearson, PR Watch: This year, Koch-backed right-wing groups are hoping
to convene a national constitutional convention in order to advocate a
federal "balanced budget amendment." After gaining some momentum, there were
successful campaigns to rescind convention calls in three states: New
Mexico, Maryland and Nevada.

Trump Budget Would Leave Low-Income Families Feeling the Heat
http://www.truth-out.org/news/item/40929-trump-budget-would-leave-low-income-families-feeling-the-heat
John R. Platt, The Revelator: Low-income families in the United States could
be left out in the cold -- or in the brutal heat -- by President Trump's
so-called "Taxpayer First Budget." A little-noticed provision would
eliminate funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which
has assisted millions of families annually with their heating and cooling
costs since 1981.
