Miriam,
On a good day I sign petitions and email articles off to family and
friends.  The hope...and that is all it is, is that the people I email
will also be writing their congress people and contacting all of their
friends.  Then one fine day we will look out our windows and see the
Good Fairy fluttering down to Earth, waving her magic wand and
sprinkling star dust on one and all.
But on most days I simply take what action I can, with the knowledge
that at best I'm about 2 billion dollars short of making a difference.
And I can't figure out why I keep fighting the System instead of
joining the Gold Rush.
But I continue reminding myself that there has never really been a
"good time" for the poorest of the poor.  And someone needs to do what
they can, even if it is only a tiny band aid on open wounds.  And so,
we keep on keeping on.

Why should we fight for it? They can undermine it by not funding it, or so
I've read and heard. And how do we fight for it? The Democrats will vote
against whatever the Republicans do except for a few disgusting Democrats
who are Republicans in disguise. And the Republicans won't change their
minds.

I'm a bit behind in cleaning up old posts, but I did read this one at the
time.  I have been inundated with requests for support and to sign
petitions, which I mostly have done.  Senator Patty Murray keeps me on her
lists, too.

Sarah Jaffe, Truthout: The Senate is our last line of defense against
the GOP's terrible health care bill, and people in the US deserve
public hearings before anything happens, says Angel Padilla, policy
director at The Indivisible Project. Meanwhile, people should be
calling every Republican and Democratic senator nonstop, writing
letters to the editor and holding sit-ins to make their displeasure
known.

Mike Ludwig, Truthout: A new push for a single-payer health system is
rising in Washington, where Republicans are pushing a draconian plan
to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Some may think that "Medicare for
All" would do little for the nation's rapidly growing population of
seniors, but a single-payer system could expand benefits and ensure
that the process of aging and dying is not exploited for profit. This
piece is part of Truthout's newly launched series, "Fighting for Our

Margaret Flowers, Truthout: A National Improved Medicare for All would
prioritize people's health and well-being over corporate profits. Even
as Republican senators seek to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, the
single-payer health care plan envisioned in Rep. John Conyers' bill,
HR 676, is receiving more support than any previous universal health care
effort.
This new installment in Truthout's series on Medicare for All offers a
primer on the bill and the vision behind it.
