I agree that a Trump presidency, God forbid, will not cause the scales to fall
from the starry eyes of the Trumpers. The things that horrify people like us,
progressives, liberals, the most are exactly the very things that the Trumpers
love about Trump. Build that wall, make the Mexicans pay for it, they’re all
rapists and criminals anyway, deport all those damned furriners, let anyone and
everyone carry an assault weapon, abandon political correctness in favor of
ugly name calling and insults, ban Muslims from entering the country, put all
Muslim neighborhoods and mosques under surveillance, shoot any person of color
for absolutely no reason, even when he's lying on the ground with his hands
over his head or crying, “I can’t breathe,” kill the families of suspected
so-called terrorists, use water boarding and worse, on and on it goes. Trump’s
most ardent supporters agree with him on all these things and share his
xenophobia, his bigotry, his hate,, his cruelty to his chosen targets.

the light", when it comes to racism. The majority of people in Nazi Germany
certainly didn't understand that there was something wrong with Hitler's
ideas when he gained power. They embraced them. I suppose that polls are
all that we have to give us some idea of what the electorate is thinking.
However, having been called twice by pollsters, I have to say that the
questions are designed to elicit certain kinds of answers. They eliminate
the possibility of saying what you actually think. For example, neither poll
allowed me to say that I would vote for someone other than the two major
candidates. Neither allowed me to say what I actually think about how Obama
is doing as President.

Let me clarify here. I do not want Trump to be our next president. but I do
wonder what it will take to get more of us to realize that the status quo is
not acceptable. Miriam, you are sure right about how some are already at
rock bottom. IT is so sad that too damned many Americans keep holding
stubbornly to things like American exceptionalism, the idea that if you play
by the rules, you will be successful here, the idea that America should keep
trying to be the world's policeman. I am especially saddened by those white
people who believe we have overcome racism as they continue to ridicule
others whose skin color or religion is different from theirs. What will it
take for more of us to see that major change is needed? Will it take the
shock of something like a Trump presidency to wake folks up to the sad
reality of the mess we're in? While I fear the answer may be yes, I still
don't want Trump in the White House next year. I will be voting for either
Stein or Clinton in November. IF Clinton continues to soundly beat Trump in
Massachusetts polls, I'll be voting my conscience wich is Jill Stein. If,
however, Trump closes the gap to fewer than ten points, I will don a gas
mask and vote for Hillery Clinton. I will not put myself in a position to be
blamed if Trump wins. Am I being selfish here? I think not.
By the way, Frank, I don't think you're being a bit selfish here and I
believe you're being badly screwed by our rotten healthcare delivery system.
Is the AHCA helping you to defray the high cost of healthcare? I sure do
hope so. The AHCA has been very beneficial for Donna who would be paying at
least twice as much for coverage without it.
